Speech and Language Therapy - Experience and Qualifications

Speech & language therapy

I have 15 years experience having qualified as a Speech & language therapist in 2001.  I started my career working in various NHS paediatric settings in London, Norwich & Norfolk before collaborating with colleagues to set up East Coast Practice in 2004, an Independent Service which aims to support Children with speech, language & communication needs by offering assessment and individually tailored interventions for children, parents and schools.

My experience has been wide ranging and includes working for North and South Suffolk Education Authority, Virtual Schools Sensory Support, Private Schools & Academies: the work has involved supporting children with a range of identified communication needs in Private and Mainstream Educational Settings both Primary and Secondary.  My work also includes working with pre-school children and their parents where they experience difficulty developing speech & language.

I have a strong belief in working collaboratively with teaching staff, parents and other therapists and professionals where possible.
My approach is grounded in meeting children where they are in order to understand their language and communication needs and building a working relationship that enables children to reach their potential.

Counselling and Psychotherapy - Experience and Qualifications

Counselling/psychotherapy

I graduated as a psychodynamic Counsellor in 2008 and whilst working in both an Agency setting and in private practice was granted the status of BACP Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist in 2012.

During this time I also worked for 5 years with CRUSE as a Bereavement Volunteer and completed their in house training and supervision programme gaining accreditation in bereavement work.

My work has also included working in conjunction with the local IAPT (NHS) service providing short term, counselling for a wide range of clients, Employee Assistance Programmes (EAP), and longer term therapy.

In 2013 I began further training as a Dynamic Interpersonal Therapist (DIT Practitioner) with WPF Therapy, and in collaboration with the Tavistock & Portman NHS Trust, and in 2015 I was granted the status of accredited Dynamic Interpersonal Practitioner by BPC.

Latterly, I also act as a director on the board of a local community interest company (CIC) offering a service to adults in Yarmouth and Waveney.

As a therapist my experience enables me to offer short term therapy focusing on understanding and changing specific problems and behaviours, or longer term therapy that provides a more in depth exploration of personality and the roots of distress.

When you have problems or are in distress it helps to talk about it.  I have a strong belief in the importance of developing a sense of security in the therapy relationship as a vehicle for change; and of working collaboratively in order to help develop insight and choice.
